The old maxim states “if necessity is the mother of invention, originality is its father. Originality is defined as the power of creating and thinking creatively. This is what the Executive Committee of the Malta Photographic Society will be doing in the coming months. Presided Louis Aguis, the Malta Photographic Society will put this dictum in practice and will venture out from its premises in Valletta to participate in various cultural activities organized around the island. The Society’s main aim is in promoting an appreciation of all forms of photography, to spread the word to the public that photography is fun, and to help others further their photographic skills no matter what level of experience or area of interest thus encourage participation.
Recently, the Malta Photographic Society was invited to participate during the Birgu Fest, at the invitation of the Vittoriosa Local Council. In this mini exhibition, which was set up at Couvre Port, the Society presented 26 photographs in Monochrome and in Colour. One could say that the featured prints were not merely photographic images but distinct works of art. The feed back received from the general public was tremendous and very encouraging to the Society to continue in its endeavours in taking photography closer to people of all ages.

The activity at Birgu, and the immensely encouraging reaction received, augurs well for the initiative that the Malta Photographic Society will be taking when holding similar events in the future, in the various localities around the island. The Society would also like to take this opportunity to thank the Vittoriosa Local Council and, in particular, the Mayor, Mr. John Boxall, for the wonderful opportunity given to the Society and urge other Local Councils, and NGOs, holding similar activities to contact the MPS and work together on such initiatives.
